The latest design in the Chads portfolio is Westway Women’s World CMS Website.
Women’s World, based in London W10, is a programme to promote Sport, Fitness, Health and Wellbeing for women living in Kensington and Chelsea. It provides a range of activities all led by positive local role-models, giving opportunities for exercise, healthy living workshops and opportunities for social interaction for women aged 16+.
The website we created is accessible for all visitors and easy to self-manage for the Westway team.
Accessible website design
To aid accessibility, the website incorporates a font resizer to enable visitors to choose the size of font that they are most comfortable reading. Their preference is remembered when they return to the website.
The Westway project caters for a wide variety of ethnic groups and we therefore included a site translator, powered by Google Translate, allowing visitors to see the content translated into a wide variety of languages, from Afrikaans, through Polish to Yiddish. Once a language is chosen, this is applied to every page that is visited.
One important feature of the website is the ease by which visitors may see the activities available. It is possible to see an overview of all activities on the “Activity Timetable” page. However, there is also a “Find an Activity” section which allows web visitors to search by Activity, Venue, Day or Time. Search results are shown as a list, with further details on any chosen activity just a click away.
Westway Women’s World also wished to publicise local and national events such as special courses during school holidays. For this we provided an online calender. This may be viewed as a list of all items in a category (such as local events) or as calendar layout, by year, month or week.
To encourage interaction and return visits, the website includes a forum to allow those who have registered to leave messages and to become involved in discussions. The registration form allows the Westway team to collect details of the age range of their members.
The website also has a Job vacancy section to allow display of details on positions available in the various centers linked to Westway; and a latest new section to allow snippets of news to be shown with “read more” links to the full articles.
