Today, more than every before, it is important to choose a strong password for the login to your website admin panel.
This of course is the case for every online login you have, but your website admin panel needs special consideration as it is likely to be a magnet for hacking attempts.
You should ensure that anyone who has a login for your website chooses a secure password. If you only have one person logging in, you can boost the security further by adding 2-level authentication (which will send a one-time code to your phone when you enter your password), but where more than one user can log in the strength of their passwords is even more important.
So what constitutes a strong password?
Secure passwords are at least 8 characters long.
However much it helps you to remember them, a secure password ideally would NOT be a real word. Avoid including personal details such as birthdays, email addresses or pet names – all of those are out in the virtual world through social media.
A strong password should include:
- a number
- at least one uppercase letter [A-Z]
- at least one lowercase letter [a-z]
- a special character such as ! @ $ % ^ & * ( ) – _ = + [ ] ; : ‘ ” , < . > / ?
I’ll leave Michael McIntyre to help you decide how you arrange those characters!
