Branch Brothers Builders Merchants in Market Deeping had a Joomla website which was still on version 1.5. They came to Chadwick Design for an upgrade to the latest version of Joomla and for the site to be made responsive.

The site is fairly complex as it has a large number of pages, multiple navigation bars, e-commerce, an image gallery and various other features. The site owners wanted to keep the appearance of the original design, but to bring it up to date not only in the version of Joomla that would power it, but by making it mobile-friendly.
The new version of the website keeps the desktop layout on iPad in landscape format, but in portrait orientation or on any smaller tablets, the site responds to the screen size.
The three separate menus are re-positioned and collapsed so they take up a minimum amount of space, yet are easy to open and navigate from with a click.
The image slider resizes to fit the screen width and content which appears in the left and right-hand columns on desktop view is moved to under the main content on each page.
Viewing the website on a phone give the same layout as in a tablet, but with the content scaled to fit the smaller screen. Some unimportant items from the site or ones which use too many resources for a mobile are hidden in mobile phone view. The phone number also becomes a clickable link to make phoning from a mobile easy.

Thanks for upgrading us so quickly to both newer versions and mobile friendly. We have had a look on a couple of different mobile devices and it looks and works really well so I can now see what all the Google fuss is all about!! I feel it will dramatically increase our web audience as they will now find so much more to view.
