On Wednesday, March 16, 2016, Google announced that:

“…beginning in May, we’ll start rolling out an update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly. ”

Quite rightly, Google believes that getting good, relevant answers when you search shouldn’t depend on what device you’re using. They want you to  get the best answer possible, whether you’re on a phone, desktop or tablet.

Last year, Google began using mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal when people searched using a mobile.

Now they are extending the effect on your website ranking that having a mobile-friendly site will have.

If you’ve already made your site mobile-friendly, this update won’t affect your ranking .

NB: Remember that what Google ranks most highly is high-quality content.  If your site doesn’t contain the useful information for which the visitor is searching, then even if your site is mobile-friendly you still won’t rank well in search results. .
