Responsive Website Design

The way that people interact with the internet has changed with the arrival of tablets and smartphones. These handheld devices have become so popular that many people feel that they cannot manage without them.

On average, 76% of people who own a smartphone will now use it to browse the internet. What does that mean for your website? If 76% of your potential customers don’t view your site on a desktop PC, but come to it on a mobile, how easy will they find the experience?

At one time websites had a template for viewing their site on a desktop PC and a second separate one for anyone visiting from a mobile phone. However, with so many different-sized smart phone screens, tablets laptops and desktop computer screens (some of which are wide-screen), it  has become impossible to cater for all of these by having a separate phone or tablet version of your site. The latest solution is “Responsive Website Design“. A responsive website will react to the size of screen on which it is being viewed. The web content is re-arranged to give the most important areas priority and to drop less important areas to “below the fold” of the screen.

Helpfully, the style of navigation changes in response to the device. On a smartphone, where screen-sizes are relatively small and navigation buttons can be hard to access, the menu collapses to a “hamburger” style for ease of use and to ensure that it does not take up too much of the screen.

Try looking at our website on a mobile and you will see an example of “Responsive Design“.
