Google has decided to take into account the speed at which a website loads when it calculates its ranking.
This means that having a website that loads slowly can now damage your ranking your ranking.
Speed really does matter when your website loads.
So how to do you make your website load quickly?
1. Make sure your website is built to the latest web standards, with the styling kept separate from the structure.
2. If you have a Content Management System and you are responsible for uploading content, makes sure you resize and optimise all your photos before you upload them. Big file sizes for photos will slow down your site. Remember, even if your website displays the image at a smaller size, it still has to load the full-size image and that slows things down. The same applies to any pdfs you upload.
