Replace printed brochures with website content.

Before you order your next batch of printed catalogues consider whether your website could do the same job. Instead of having a 12-page catalogue printed, send out a 1-page leaflet backed up by a brochure website.

Use a flip-the-page brochure online. If you feel that your clients prefer to have a brochure, catalogue or pricelist, replace your existing printed copies with online Adobe flash copies which have turn-the-page facilities. See a sample flip-the-page brochure>>

Send email campaigns not direct mail campaigns.

Direct mail campaigns may be effective, but they’re also costly. Furthermore, having on average a 7% response rate that means 93% of direct mail most likely in the bin. Email campaigns are paperless, and they’ve been proven to create better results. An email is delivered directly to the recipient's email inbox, it creates easy viewing, and there’s a level of convenience. If the viewer wants more info, one click will give them your website.

Advertise on line using Pay-per-Click or by improving your website's natural ranking.

Online advertising does not add to the mountain of printed matter in magazines, newspapers, posters, flyers etc.

Consider replacing a proportion of the ads you take in print mediums with pay-per-click, improving your organic ranking or social media marketing online. Try taking smaller printed adverts publicising further information on your website.

Send email newsletters.

Keeping in touch with your clients regularly is important, so a newsletter is a great idea. Consider replacing the printed version with an online version. These may be sent by trackable email systems so you know who has opened your newsletter and which part of the news was particularly of interest to them because they clicked through to your website for more details.

Store your instruction manuals and tip-sheets online.

Instead of supplying printed instruction leaflets and manuals, store pdf versions online and email customers the link to these. If they wish to print a copy they can, and they have easy access to a replacement when they lose their first copy!

* Use pdf copies of any of your documents wherever possible.

This can cost as little a £6 per year.

Make your web pages printer friendly.

Sometimes website visitors will want to print information from your website.

Ensure that your site has a print-friendly style-sheet which takes off all the extraneous information and navigation links when the page is printed, and remove background colours (to use less ink). This minimises the number of sheets of paper needed to print your web page and create happy viewers too!.

Save your prospective customer a visit.

If your location or premises are an important part of your sales pitch, use an online 360 degree interactive virtual tour to show your company in its best light and save prospective customers an unnecessary journey.

Virtual tours are ideal for restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, theatres, music venues, holiday destinations and showrooms. See examples of Chadwick Design virtual tours at our virtual tour showcase: Panodrama.co.uk.

Speed-up your website.

Search engines and real visitors like fast websites, so it's in your interest to ensure your pages load quickly. Slow sites also use more energy because the web server has to work harder to deliver the content. Make sure your website is built to the latest web standards and that images and pdfs are properly optimised for fast loading.

If you are really serious about this... consider your website colours.

Computer monitors use energy to display online colours. Older CRT monitors used more energy to display lighter colours such as white but newer LCD monitors use more energy to display dark colours such as black.

Because of the widespread use of LCDs, the darker the colour of your website, the more energy it will use.
