Here’s a tutorial on creating text links and links on images within a Joomla! article using TinyMCE editor.
External links are a cinch, but Joomla! is not renowned for making internal links easy when you use the standard editor!
First step is to create your article of course! If you haven’t done this, here’s how to create a new article in Joomla!
If you wish to link to an external website, simply visit the page you wish to link to and copy the whole url from the address bar. Make sure you have the http:// included or the link will not work.
Then open your article and highlight the words that you wish to form the link and click the link icon on the WYSIWYG pane. (The icon will be greyed out until you highlight the text.)
This will bring up the link pane.
On the General Tab – paste the link you copied when you visited the website to which you want to link (complete with http://).
Then choose a target from either:
Open in this window - which will replace your website page with the site you are linking to.
Open in a new window _blank - which will start a new tab and keep your website open. (Recommended)
You may add a link to an image in the same way.
Simply click the image to highlight it and then click the link icon and follow the same steps.
Adding a link to an internal page within your own site is exactly the same if it appears on your menu bar. Simply visit the page and copy the address. Use this to add the link as above.
If you wish to have a page which does not appear on any menu bar in your site, but can only be accessed from a text link within one of your pages, then the simplest way to do this is as follows:
1) Create the article page
2) Create a menu link
3) Visit the page to copy the url to use with the text link
4) Go back to the menu manager and Unpublish the menu item so that it does not appear on the menu bar.
